2012 ARRL June VHF Contest
The 2012 June VHF Contest had the most uneven six meter propagation I've seen in a long time. Stations at more northerly latitudes had great propagation, including a very good six meter opening to Europe that extended as far inland as the upper midwest. In Southern California, six meters was very mediocre. It was open just enough that we could listen to stations in places like Idaho and Alberta working all over the northeast when we could hear nothing to the east.
I stayed close to home this year, running QRP portable in a Subaru parked on Signal Peak in Newport Beach, CA. That's a very good microwave location and not bad on six meters, either--when the E-layer cooperates. Thanks to the Southern California rovers for many Qs on the higher bands. And thanks to Carrie, W6TAI/R, for going to Gaviota to give a lot of us CM94 on many bands.
