2012 ARRL Field Day

06/30/2012 | KB5FIO

I used a "Loop Skywire" antenna (see QST Nov. 1985) this year.  Even though it was at the relatively low height of about 20 feet -- the only available supports were rather stubby juniper trees -- it far out-performed the dipoles I used in previous years.  I highly recommend it.

A few pictures are attached for your enjoyment.  That bird in the first picture had an intense interest in solar energy.  He would fly down underneath the panels, stare upwards intently, and occasionally peck at the back of the panels.  He did this repeatedly throughout the day.

Had a great time, and thanks to the ops of all the stations I was able to work.

73,

James, KB5FIO
