2012 ARRL Field Day

07/03/2012 | WA9STI

This is the 16th year that I have operated Field Day on my own.  Unfortunately I could not get out to the mountains this time as a 1B station.  So being at home I set up a table and chair in the backyard, rerouted the coax from my fixed beam and dipole on the tower, and ran it to an FT-857 hooked up to a battery to work 1E LAX.  As usual it was a lot of fun but I envied the operators out in the true outdoors.  But one benefit of being so close to the home QTH was shrimp on the barbie and steak served by my XYL Karla, KB6LAS.  I managed 325 contacts to include 47 on CW.  This Field Day I operated in memory of my father, Bob N9MCL, a WWII Navy vet, who became a silent key on June 21, 2012.   Scott,  Los Angeles, CA.
