2012 ARRL 10 Meter Contest

12/11/2012 | K3WWP

For this contest, Mike KC2EGL and John K3WWP took their ‘tag team’ approach. We are both members of the <a href="http://naqcc.info">NAQCC</a> (North American QRP CW Club) Western PA Chapter and get together for a lot of ham radio activities including contesting. Our ‘tag team’ approach could be labeled 2OP 1STN 2LOGS or something like that. We use my station and take turns working stations. I (K3WWP) work someone, then get up and ‘tag’ Mike who sits down and works the same station – or vice-versa. We keep separate logs, and most times we are successful in each of us making contact. Out of 45 tries, we clicked 43 times in this contest with my KX3 at 5 watts into a porch-roof mounted dipole. Of course we don’t really make the ‘tag’ as shown in these mock-up pictures, but use that phrase because of the ‘tag team’ concept in wrestling. This year it seemed it was a high-scoring contest for the KW and beam stations, but not for the little-pistol station like mine. I needed the great sunspot cycle peak conditions of 2001 when I made 460 QRP/dipole QSOs, and we didn’t have that this year. Still it was a lot of fun for the two of us on a Sunday.
