2013 ARRL Straight Key Night
Wow, another great SKN! I had my super-modified Heathkit HW-16 as well as my Heathkit CW Twins on the air. Only once did I cheat with the K3.
It only takes a few minutes with the BAs to see how far we've come the past few decades. Fortunately I had the HG-10 working this year so I wasn't rock-bond with the HW-16.
I talked to a lot of great CW ops, and a few who need a bit more practice. My hope is that everyone will learn how to slow down their bugs so they are not sending dits at 35 wpm and dahs at 13. I would like to thank everyone who put up with my own poor sending. Paddles are so tempting!
I used two different Vibroplex bugs, one from the 50s and one from the 60s. I also used a Viz Vertical bug which is my favorite. It is very smooth and can be adjusted for a light touch. See my pictures.
The HW-16 was modified by W5NYT, Robbie, who passed away last October. He built another one that covered 160-15 meters.
See you all next year!
73,
Eric WD6DBM.
