2013 ARRL January VHF Contest
KJ6VZC & I had great weather for our 505 mile Rove around SoCal, BUT activity levels left much to be desired. In 20 hours of operating, we only made 102 QSOs as a 4 band Limited Rover entry. On Saturday, we drove from Ventura (CA) DM04 North to CM94 & CM95 and back to Thousand Oaks. On Sunday, we drove across the Santa Monica Mts. to Malibu, along the coastline of Santa Monica Bay, spent some time on a little hilltop near LAX airport, drove through El Segundo, Redondo Bch, & Hermosa Bch (a beach day!!) and up to the top of Palos Verdes. Great visibility of about 70 miles, temperatures in the high 70s made for a pleasant time, but 6m & 2m powerline QRN was terrible. We also drove East to activate DM13 & DM14, operated from Diamond Bar, passed by PAsadena's Rose Bowl, and finished the contest from the President Ronald Reagan Presidential Library & Museum's hilltop location in Simi Valley.
