2013 ARRL School Club Roundup - February
February arrived and School Club Round-Up was once again on the minds of students at Glenn Raymond School. February tends to be a busy month for us here as many of the students are involved in sports, science olympiad and math competitions, show choir, and numerous other extracurricular activities.
Students and staff managed to put W9GRS on air searching and pouncing for school stations during lunch period and the last 20 minutes or so of the school wide activity period. During that time we got to chat with Gene and K5LMS crew and the always present KF5CRF team.
Thursday and Friday proved to be the main days of operation as 13 students got on air to reach the 100 QSO goal. The traditional QSO with K9SOU was made, courtesy of a 40/80/160 dipole that was temporarily strung as a sloper towards the east from the gym to the center school courtyard. Highlights include making our first CW qso with German school station DN2AA and re-connecting with Lycee Technical School (LX9LTE) on digital after making a contact with them in May and encouraging them to join the fun!
We are looking forward to some changes in curriculum and activities next year which may allow us more time to focus on licensing and radio time for students and staff. Always a blast operating during the week and continue to add school stations to our log!
