2014 ARRL Straight Key Night
My rig a Johnson Viking Adventurer Transmitter at 25W output, IC7600 for RX and 2el Quad on 20m and a vertically polarized 40m delta loop on 40m band. I used a J-38 and also a Wm M. Nye Straight Key with the Navy Knob. Alas the loading capacitor ( a dual gang 365mfd variable) shorted in after 021700z and I had to use the ic7600 as an xcvr for the rest of the event. Total 9 FB QSOs this year.
Best Fist nomination: WB5LRP, Jim in Tempe TX using a J38.
Most interesting QSO: 3-way with AC5P, Mike in Bartlesville Ok using a customized J36 bug and WB2AWQ, Howie in Reno NV using GO-9 Military Transmitter and a straight key. Mike was asking me if I knew WB2AWQ and I was telling him what a fine fellow Howie is when Howie broke in and joined us! Mike and Howie are old friends on the air and Howie moved here to Reno about 3 years ago and is an important part of the Northern Nevada Amateur Radio Community now. Old and new friend meet on SKN!
Great fun as always – My favorite “contest”/event of the year! Lots of great fists and vintage gear again this year!
73 and cu all next year! A happy, healthy and prosperous year to all in 2014!
