2018 ARRL September VHF Contest

09/11/2018 | KF2MR/R

I activated 4 grids from tried and tested locations: FN12, FN13, FN02, and FN03. I was pleasantly surprised by the good level of activity this contest. Every grid produced some nice surprises and lots of microwave activity. I had a 10 band sweep for the first time with a fixed station in Canada and made 10GHz contacts from locations I never thought possible. It goes to show that even if a contact has not worked out in the past, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try again. Several members of the Rochester VHF Group had new bands on the air which made it much more fun. I also really enjoy the teamwork from the VE/VA3s around Lake Ontario. This is a great group of guys with a passion for the hobby and I am lucky to have them just a grid or two away. The more we work together, the better we all seem to do. The attached picture was taken at sunset on Saturday evening from FN13 as I lined up with a VE3 near Toronto. I am really glad I participated. Well worth the time, money, and effort!
