Massachusetts ARES Team Assisting with Flood Damage Assessment

-- Just as Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) volunteers had wrapped up operations in the wake of major flooding in southeastern New Hampshire and northeastern Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Bay Red Cross has requested Amateur Radio support to assist with damage assessment. Tom Kinahan, N1CPE, Massachusetts State RACES Radio Officer, received the request at 6:30 PM local time Wednesday, and Eastern Massachusetts ARES was activated Thursday morning. The Eastern Massachusetts ARES Net Control Center at the Bridgewater EOC will act as net control for the duration. Eastern Massachusetts ARRL Section Emergency Coordinator and SKYWARN Coordinator Rob Macedo, KD1CY, said that in view of the scope of the damage on the North Shore, this operation could last for several days. The flooding has been called the worst in New England in 70 years.
