Day 1:  Introduction & Basic Electronics

  • Introductions
  • Program overview
  • Making wireless technology (WT) relevant
  • Define – “What do we teach?”, connection to benchmarks and science literacy
  • Electronics basics
  • Overview of the ETP curriculum, just one way of many
  • Laptop computer preparations and checkout
  • Teaching the Science of WT

           -  Propscope set up and use

           -  Basic Electronics Course

           -  Modulation and Demodulation Board

           -  Soldering 101

  •  Homework, solder the 24-hour Clock Kit

  

Day 2:  Wireless Communication / Radio

  • Teaching the Science of WT

           -  5 Building blocks of WT

            -  Wave propagation

            -  Infrared remote control

            -  Intro to RFID

            -  DSP Fundamentals

  • WT and the vocational education studen
  • Ham radio operations that support your teaching

           - Radio direction finding (Fox Hunting)

           - Satellite operations/ NOAA weather satellites

           - HF operations

           - Working with a local ham radio club

 

 Day 3:  Microcontrollers

  • “What is a Microcontroller”

           - Getting started; lights on/lights off; digital inputs

  • Microcontroller applications

           - Controlling motion

           - Measuring rotation

           - Digital display

           - Frequency and sound

           - RFID applications

 

 Day 4:  Robotics

  • Robot component setup
  • Assemble the Boe-Bot
  • Robot navigation

          - motor control: dead reckoning (the maze)

          - sensor control: touch (avoid, using metal “feelers”)

          - sensor control: infrared (conga line)

          - radio frequency control: RFID tags

  • Ham radio operations that support your teaching

          - MAREA activity

           - APRS operations

           - Looking ahead to TI-2

  • Program critique and good-byes
