...and we're BACK!

Jun 28, 2009 06:12 ET
Sean E. Kutzko, KX9X

Sean, KX9X here.. we've been back on the air since about 0930GMT Sunday morning (that's 5:30am out here in the east coast). I'm the sole operator for the time being, so I'm filling up the log with as many CW QSOs as I can. Hope to work you today! And be on the lookout for more 6 meter propagation.. .yesterday was some serious fun!

Operators in every studio!

Where's Susie?

Where's Alan?

Can you folks who know Sean guess where he be at?

Khrystyne has a love for the "Green Keys!"

Dan -- He provides a "Southern Touch" to our Field Day experience!

It's almost 10:30 PM eastern. The Field Day bulletins are done for the evening. And, we're settled in for the night (almost!).

We currently have ops on 80 meters SSB, 40 meters CW, 20 meters RTTY and 6 meters CW/SSB. Can you guess who is where?

Kid in a Candy Store

6-Meters is as wide open as I think I have ever seen it from W1AW - and ARRL Contest Manager Sean Kutzko, KX9X, is like a kid opening presents on Christmas morning INSIDE the proverbial free candy story. In the last half hour he has worked double-skip from CT to Arizona, Colorado and California - and is about half-way to a 6-meter WAS for W1AW.

Looking for the W1AW QSL? We will be uploading the Field Day logs to Logbook Of The World - so hopefully you can use the W1AW QSO for the new Triple Play Award. Give us a few days to combine the logs and such... And I encourage you to upload your Field Day logs to LOTW as well.

About time for the 9:45 PM EDT Field Day bulletin from W1AW. Afterwards, we will be back on RTTY, phone and CW. And we are anxiously awaiting the chance to try out the new temporary 160-meter wire vertical constructed with this weekend in mind... Hope to catch you on Top Band this evening!

And now for something completely different!

Yours-truly in the inflatable jump house! Yep, that's me...not a stunt-double.

Does my nephew look happy, or what? He just recently graduated high school with high honors! In the Fall, he will be attending Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, Massachusetts. Look out world!!

(With apologies to Monty Python!)

Although one can't just pull themselves away from the fun festivities associated with Field Day, I was "forced" to do as much! Poor me.

I had to attend my nephew's graduation party. Yes, yes, I know...such a drag. What with all that food and fun and happiness. But, I was obligated, you know! Someone had to!

So...I tried to make the best of it!

Back to W1AW and the Field Day activities!!!

Going Strong at 5:15 EDT at W!AW

Jun 27, 2009 17:15 ET
Daniel B Henderson, N1ND

Going strong as we pass 2115 UTC. We are currently on 15 and 40 Meters phone and 20 CW with the main W1AW callsign while the W1HQ GOTA station has apparently used up all of the juice in the lone-sunspot on 10-meters and has moved to 75-meter phone for a while. KX9X is like a kid in the candy store on 6-meters.

We are snacking well on chips and cookies - the Field Day staples - and hydrated with a fine selection of soft drinks, water, and of course N1ND has to have his iced tea :-) When we break later while the Field Day bulletins are transmitted we will down something more substantial - haven't decided if it will be subs or pizza or wings and such, but like all good Field Day operations we will be have our fill before we head into the overnight operations.

Don't forget to listen for the W1AW Field Day bulletin later tonight or tomorrow. I noticed Joe has posted the bulletin schedule and frequency information link earlier in this blog. And many thanks to the great friends at K6KPH who transmit the bulletin on several frequencies and times to help ensure that everyone has a chance to copy it for those bonus points!

It's Field Day - Enjoy the Hands On Fun!!!
