Additional Information: South Mountain Radio Amateurs is pleased to be offering an Amateur Radio Course, based on the ARRL’s "Ham Radio License Manual” for the Technician License class. An examination session at the conclusion of the course will also be offered, (11-18-23), at no charge.
What is included with the session:
• Text: "Ham Radio License Manual” by ARRL—FIFTH EDITION
• Five, 2-hour Power Point presentations, (with down loadable notes)
• No-charge FCC exam for the technician license class, (To obtain a license, you must successfully complete a Licensing Examination session and pay a $35 licensing fee to the FCC).
Each student who passes the exam will receive:
• BaoFeng UV-5R HT, fully programed with local repeaters and emergency frequencies
• Session on “how-to” program manually
*Free one year membership into SMRA upon successful completion of Technician License.
When and where will the session be held:
Public Safety Training Room, One Public Safety Drive, Carlisle, PA, beginning on Saturday October 14th; October 21st; October 28th; November 4th; November 11th; from 9:00 – 11:00 AM.
Test for Technician License November 18th, 9-11AM

• Welcome to Amateur Radio, Radio Signals Fundamentals, and Electricity Components and Circuits: Chapters 1, 2 and 3
• Electricity Components and Circuits and Propagation, Antennas, and Feedlines: Chapters 3 and 4

• Communicating with Other Hams and Licensing Regulations: Chapters 6 and 7
• Operating Regulations and Safety: Chapter 8 and 9
