The SOJOURNERS is a regional, multi-county club, with members in three ARRL sections and two divisions. Full members must be a resident or property owner in the historic "State of Jefferson" consisting of the following (California or Oregon) counties: Del Norte, Humbolt, Lassen, Modoc, Shasta, Siskiyou, Trinity, Coos, Curry, Douglas, Jackson, Josephine or Klamath; and maintain a current membership and be in good standing with: a) The American Radio Relay League (A.R.R.L.); or, b) The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (A.R.E.S.); or, c) The Royal Order of the Wouff Hong.
Members pledge to live up to the highest standards and finest traditions of the Amateur Radio Service. Emphasis is placed on emergency preparedness, proficient operating, "Elmering" (YL "Elmers" are called "Annies"), Field Day, Nets, Traffic Handling skills, radio history and vintage gear, and special events from: "The State of Jefferson". (For more information on the history of the SOJ visit our website. The club callsign is: W6SOJ - "Worked State of Jefferson"!
In our first Special Event last year we issued certificates to stations in 49 states, 21 countries from all continents. The club supports the ARES and other EMCOMM groups. 23 of its members played key roles in EMCOMM 2001, a regional Emergency Communications Conference on March 31 of this year.
Another innovation was the "gourmet potluck cookoff" at our first annual meeting last October. Winners in three different categories were presented with a chef's apron displaying the "Seal of the Great State of Jefferson".
