Keeping and recruiting members is a critical activity for any organization, and ARRL is no exception. ARRL members renew because they are convinced that they get good value for their dollar and that their membership gives the League the strength to pursue the activities that keep Amateur Radio strong domestically and worldwide. Membership services start here, in the Circulation Department.
The Circulation Department handles multiple functions--new-ham information desk, membership fulfillment, member promotion, publication fulfillment, publication promotion and warehouse activities. A ham's first contact with ARRL might well have been a call to the New Ham Information Desk.
New Ham Information Desk
Newcomers to Amateur Radio can call the "New Ham Hotline" [1-800-32-NEW HAM (800-326-3942)] for a package of information prepared especially for persons wanting to know more about the hobby. The Circulation Department sends material to thousands of prospective hams each year. Many people have an interest, but need direction. ARRL provides that direction with information available on ARRLWeb..
ARRL encourages Amateur Radio clubs to list the toll-free number in their newsletters and anywhere else that potential members can be found.
Membership
Members' requests are handled on an immediate basis. The staff processes more than 200,000 member-related transactions per year. They handle thousands of permanent and seasonal address changes to ensure that members get their copies of QST in a timely manner. The membership branch also handles fulfillment and maintenance of all NCJ and QEX subscriptions.
Publications
![]() "We'd love to hear from you," say Dealer Representative Zoe Belliveau and Supervisor Lisa Tardette. |
QST is perhaps the best known ARRL publication, but we publish more than 160 titles, including The ARRL Handbook, The ARRL Antenna Book and The ARRL Operating Manual. ARRL also sells books produced by RSGB --our IARU sister society in Great Britain-- and other publishers.
The ARRL Products Catalog lists 282 products, including books, organized into 27 categories. This wide array of products makes ARRL a one-stop international marketplace.

Publication fulfillment staff process orders for more than 600,000 pounds of books, CDs, software and supply items per year. Approximately 50% of these orders are from individual customers. Many individuals shop at our Web site, while others respond to our mailings or phone in orders after browsing through the printed version of our catalog, which is published three times a year. The remaining 50% are sold to our growing dealer network that in turn sells from retail outlets or Web sites. To find an ARRL publications dealer near you, see our find-a-dealer Web page.

Keeping up with new ARRL products is a major task for our publication team. They produce ads, conduct mailings and maintain contact with wholesale customers, all in an effort to ensure that hams are supplied with publications covering all conceivable operating activities and technical interests.
Warehouse
![]() Meet the Warehouse crew: Supervisor Steve Capodicasa, Joe Siedsma and Pam Dzamba, KB1FMZ. |
Due to the dramatic increase of titles, our warehouse facility is now located off-site, approximately one-quarter mile from HQ. The warehouse staff is responsible for packing all outbound orders so they will reach our customers in a timely manner (and in good condition). In addition to receiving and shipping a huge quantity of books and supplies each year, warehouse staff is responsible for shipping all supplemental issues of QST--copies destined for subscribers whose addresses were not available in time to be incorporated into the printer's mailing list at press time. Warehouse staff also must cope with the ever-growing number of postal forms. Three full-time employees handle these responsibilities.
