Surfin': Have Wheels, Will Travel (With Radio)

    By Stan Horzepa, WA1LOU

Get ready for summer and mobile Amateur Radio operation by visiting this week's featured Web site.

Welcome to K0BG's Web Site and meet Alan Applegate of Roswell, New Mexico, who has built a wonderful Web site dedicated to mobile Amateur Radio operation.

K0BG's Web Site contains a great collection of information for safe, sound and successful mobile Amateur Radio operation.

Now that the snow has melted in most of the inhabited lower 48, many a ham's thoughts turn to mobiling and Alan's Web site is a great place to prepare for radio operation in motion.

K0BG's Web Site covers mobile operation from A to Z with pertinent and informative articles about operating mobile effectively and safely. Alan covers many topics such as antennas, antenna mounts, equipment mounts, auto-couplers, wiring, hiding the wiring, fusing, bonding, noise identification and suppression, etc.

Alan says, "The site directly addresses HF mobile operation, but is applicable to VHF in most cases," and I agree with him wholeheartedly. There are great tips and nuggets of information throughout the articles that most definitely apply to mobile operation on all the ham radio bands.

As they say, "a picture's worth a 1000 words," so photos and figures accompany the articles as required to illuminate the written descriptions. There is also a "picture gallery," so you can see Alan's shack on wheels, his family, the second "op" ("woof-woof"), and his "other" hobby ("boop-boop-a-doop.")

Until next week, keep on surfin'

Editor's note: After visiting K0BG's web site, WA1LOU is reconsidering his mobile installation with a pair of hedge trimmers. To discuss mobiling and other important stuff with Stan, send him e-mail at wa1lou@arrl.net.
