This week, get back to the Dayton Hamvention, or visit it for the first time by way of the Internet.
In case you missed it, the Dayton Hamvention was last weekend. I missed it, big time! For a couple of reasons, I did not drive the land barge 711 miles to attend the real big show in the Gem City this year, and as a result I suffered from Hamvention withdrawal all weekend long.
![]() Slideshows on the K0NEB Web page highlight the Hamventions of 2006, 2005 and 2004. |
But, by way of a variety of Internet resources, I was virtually in Dayton. I don't know if this helped or hindered my withdrawal, but by Sunday, I felt better when I realized that I did not have to drive 711 miles back home!
Tom Medlin, WA5KUB, had live video up and running on the Net throughout the weekend. Wearing his helmet cam, Tom documented his Hamvention experience, including driving to and from Dayton, going to restaurants, manning his flea market booth and so on. The video is not live now, but it is showing reruns of the Hamvention.
Steve Ford, WB8IMY, from ARRL HQ, had a Dayton Hamvention blog going throughout the weekend. On Friday, Steve asked his blog readers what they would like him to photograph at the Hamvention. I e-mailed Steve and asked him to take a photo of the folks at the TAPR booth, which is where I spend most of my time during past Hamventions. Steve responded with this photo -- that's John Koster, W9DDD, and Sheilah Bible, N7HPR's wife, in the photo.
Post Dayton, Joe Eisenberg, K0NEB, put up two Hamvention slideshows on his K0NEB Web page. Coincidentally, one of Joe's slides includes WA5KUB's "streaming live on the Internet" flea market booth. Another slide shows Joe wearing his signature Cat in the Hat hat surrounded by a bevy of ICOM sales people. Joe's page also has slideshows from the 2004 and 2005 editions of the Hamvention.
Until next time, keep on surfin'.
Editor's note: Stan Horzepa, WA1LOU, is already making plan
to attend the 2007 Dayton Hamvention! To discuss Hamventions, hamfests and
other fine things, e-mail Stan or add
comments to his blog.
