Oregon Still Feeling Impact of Winter Storms

David Kidd, KA7OZO, District Emergency Coordinator for Oregon's District One, reports that several counties in his district continue to be impacted by a series of severe winter storms.
Clatsop County
The Emergency Operations Center and ARES unit were reactivated when the power and phone service went out again in the Jewell area. Two hams are at the county EOC and two hams will be going to the County Sheriff's Office sub-station to provide emergency communications as needed. Adjacent counties within District 1 had been prepared to support this operation if needed with personnel, equipment and using 4WD vehicles. Clatsop County ARES was activated at 1530 December 25 and will remain on duty until the situation is corrected.
Clackamas County
This county continues to have power outages spread all over the county, but Portland General Electric is reducing the numbers constantly. Roads continue to be an issue with packed snow/ice, which causes many roads to difficult to navigate, but are starting to get cleared from outside equipment brought in as a result of the Declaration of Emergency signed by the governor. The county EOC has been reactivated today.
Multnomah County
This county continues to deal with the severe impact of this weather event on its roads, power grid and emergency services. Emergency declarations have been issued for Portland and Gresham. The metro tri-county areas around Portland have been impacted the most in this weather event and will continue to be impacted until the ice/snow melts, roads are cleared, and power is restored completely.
Kidd reports that ARES District-1 leadership and personnel are standing by to support any served agency needs as they develop.
