AView Notes

Upgrade to latest version · Specific Errors · AView for QST View

AView is a viewer program used with several ARRL CD-ROM publications (QEX Collection CD-ROM, NCJ Collection CD-ROM, Ham Radio Magazine CD-ROM and QST View 1995-1999).

AView for QST View

AView for QST View is available on the QST View Notes page.

Upgrade to AView 1.10

The latest version of AView contains fixes for several bugs found in earlier versions. (See the README.TXT file.) You can upgrade to the latest version using the file as follows:

1) Download the AV110.EXE file (below) and put it into an empty directory.

2) Run the AV110.EXE file from Windows Explorer or using Start|Run.

3) When the initial dialog window appears, click the Setup button.

Note: AV110.EXE will not install if it detects that AView 1.10 or later is already installed.

Download AV110.EXE

Specific Errors

  • No "Browse" Tab
  • AView sometime crashes when I try to view a page
  • Some pages print as blank or with just a page footer
  • Some pages print "mirrored" or "backward"
  • During printing, AView complains about a nonexistant file
  • "File not found" error
  • Using QST View 1995-1999 with Older QST View Sets

    No "Browse" Tab

In some circumstances, the first time AView is run the display window is too small and the tabs that select the Search, Browse and Item panes are not visible. Simply resize the window to a larger size (or maximize it) to make the tabs visible.

AView sometime crashes when I try to view a page

This problem was corrected in AView 1.09. Please upgrade to the latest version.

Some pages print as blank or with just a page footer

This problem was corrected in AView 1.09. Please upgrade to the latest version.

Some pages print "mirrored" or "backward"

This problem was corrected in AView 1.06. Please upgrade to the latest version.

During printing, AView complains about a nonexistant file

This problem was corrected in AView 1.09. Please upgrade to the latest version.

    "File not found" error

This may be normal (see the "Misc Tab (Preferences)" topic in the AView help file) or may be due to a bug in AView V1.04. Upgrade to the latest version.

Using QST View 1995-1999 with Older QST View Sets

QST View 1995-1999 and other ARRL Collection CD-ROM products use a common viewer application, ARRL AView. AView can also be used with the older QST View sets (covering the years 1914-1994). Those older sets included a different viewer program, but we recommend that users of the older sets not install or use that older software. Use AView instead. After you install QST View 1995-1999, you need only select AView's File | Preferences menu item, click the CD-ROMs tab, and check off the QST View CDs you have available. You will then be able to use AView to browse, display and print all of the QST View sets you have. Note: QST View 1995-1999 is required to use older QST View sets with AView.
