Brennan T. Price, N4QX, is ARRL’s Technical Relations Manager, representing the interests of Amateur Radio to numerous governmental and international agencies, including the FCC, NTIA, and ITU. With the staff of ARRL’s Technical Relations Office and ARRL’s Washington Team, he prepares for quadrennial World Radiocommunications Conferences, at which spectrum is internationally allocated to various radio services. His prime objective is simply put: Don’t lose spectrum.

First licensed in 1997 as KF4UZB, Price earned his Extra Class license by 1999, acquiring the call signs KU4WJ and N4QX in the process. He served on the ARRL staff from 2000 to 2004 as Field and Regulatory Correspondent and Assistant Technical Editor. Price attended night classes at the University of Connecticut School of Law while at ARRL and left full-time ARRL employment to become Executive Editor of the Connecticut Law Review. While at the Law Review, he was invited to publish a scholarly summary of case and statutory law related to PRB-1, the FCC’s limited preemption of Amateur Radio antenna and antenna support zoning restrictions. This summary is designed to inform Amateurs, their counsel, and municipal counsel of the state of the law before any party adopts an unwise strategy.

After finishing law school, Price practiced intellectual property and antitrust law at the Hartford office of a New York-based firm. His clients included BellSouth during its acquisition by AT&T, GameStop during its acquisition of Electronics Boutique, JCPenney during a trademark dispute, and Actavis, a pharmaceutical company, in numerous patent litigation and counseling matters. He left the firm to return to ARRL in September 2008.

Price has earned a B.A. in Chemistry, cum laude, from Vanderbilt University, an M.S. in Chemistry from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a J.D., with honors, from the University of Connecticut School of Law. He is admitted to the Connecticut bar and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He resides in Arlington, Virginia, and is resident in ARRL’s Fairfax, Virginia office. When he is not at ARRL or on the air, Price enjoys officiating football and playing chess.
