2004 ARRL November Sweepstakes (Phone)

11/22/2004 | KP2/K7ICE CQ SS de KP2/K7ICE

November SS phone contest has always been my favorite contest to do from the Yukon. Arctic winds would soon give way to the soft and warm trade winds the Caribbean is famous for. Add QRP to the recipe and this will get very interesting. Challenge would certainly be an interesting word to use if one wanted to convince others to go QRP at the bottom of the sunspot cycle! I was recently smitten by the QRP bug and figured Id give it a go in the November SS phone contest of late. About 18 hours of operating was all I could manage to do since my voice and propagation gave out. I racked up only 248 Qs all total and worked 65 multipliers on 10, 15, 20 and 40 meters from the Caribbean. It was fun but very trying, especially the times I had to repeat my exchange several times. I pretty much beat myself up on the first 100 Qs. On Sunday I had 10 meters to myself according to a few hams who contacted me. I had a good run of 150 Qs that morning as apparently the big gun stations were concentrating on the lower bands. I worked three other KP2s but none were QRP. I had a wonderful time overall.
