2005 ARRL Straight Key Night
I only worked a handful of QSOs, but amazingly enough, I worked two people that I worked last year on SKN. What fun! I'm going to make SKN a tradition.
The nostalgia is overwhelming. While I do not miss having to plug in the various crystals to make the rig work (my MKV doesn't use xtals), I actually missed having to tune all over the place to find people calling me. They all came back to me on my frequency. (Doesn't anybody use crystals any more?) Most fists sounded pretty good (with the exception of mine of course, which sounded like I was using my foot!).
Near local midnight on SKN, I was packing it in for the evening when a copy of 200 Meters and Down caught my eye. An old history of the ARRL and ham radio in the early days. What a flashback to the early years. This copy was printed on the 50th anniversay of the ARRL (1964) so even the book smelled old. Read the whole book on SKN weekend. A great read I might add.
Thanks for the Qs guys. See ya all next year.
