2005 ARRL June VHF Contest
It was "just a few months ago" I participated in the September VHF contest for the first time.
I ended up with exactly 4 points for two contacts on two grids. It was a start!
This June I managed to put the antenna up a little higher and instead of turning it using the "armstrong" method,
I employed a voice operated remote controlled rotor. Just operating the antenna was almost half the fun.
The equipment:
TS0820S as the 14 MHz IF feeding a
Ten-Tec 1208 transverter in turn feeding a
PAR Stressed Moxon antenna being rotated by
Channel Master antenna rotator and Phillip the actual Voice Operated Remote Master.
Hoping to add 2 m or 70cm by September and raise the antenna some more.
A couple of hours before the end of the contest I decided to try eliminating the feed line from the Ten-Tec transverter to the
antenna and I ended up mounting it right on the mast using only four feet of feedline from transverter output to antenna.
There was no duct tape involved, just wire ties.
So far I can't say it makes a significant difference. The lenth of feed line I eliminated was only 40 or so feet of RG-8.
I'll leave it up a few more days before I bring it down. The "waterproofing" should be able to last that long!!
Looking forward to the September contest.
