2007 ARRL Field Day
Field Day 2007 was our 9th year to demonstrate an emergency radio station to the community. This year we requested a Special Event Call Sign to honor and dedicate this
field day to two local hams who had become Silent Keys this past year. We set up along
a fire road in the community that adjoins both a county and city park. We are
located on a ridge at about 1000 feet above sea level and probably have one of the most spectacular settings in California. We had more than
50 visitors including 11 ham operators. We were visited by the Fire Chief for the city as well as the Mayor Pro Tem. We set up two rigs a Yaesu 897D and an ICOM 706MKIIG.
We used solar panels to keep our deep cell batteries charged. For antennas we used a
Buddipole and a homemade inverted V antenna. We also had available for use SSB for
2m, 6m, and 70 cm. and FM for 2m and 70cm.
We are most proud of the PR coverage we received this year - over 54 column inches of
coverage over a three-week period. We also want to thank the ARRL staff for the new
brochures and the whole exhibit kit They were great although we had to tuck them
away when the wind got to us. Thanks for the great job. -- KE6GFI
