2007 ARRL 10 GHz and Up Contest
Contest for Southern Californians was the big
signals rolling in from Mexico--from places w-a-y
down the Baja Peninsula.
With 4C2WH (WB6CWN) operating from DL34, and with
a good coastal inversion, the 10 GHz North American
DX record was broken five times during the August
weekend, as others have noted. Meanwhile,
4B2WB (W6YLZ), XE2/K6NKC, 6I2HWH and 6I2HWB also had
big signals into Southern California during one or
both weekends.
These DXpeditions inspired a lot of activity in
California. Often it was possible for people
with modest equipment (such as the 14-inch dish on
the roof of my camper) to run a string of stateside
(or DX) QSOs in rapid succession with one call.
That's a rarity on 10 GHz for me.
On Sunday of the second weekend, Art Goddard, W6XD,
went with me. It was Art's first foray into the
10 GHz contest, and he had great success with
another modest station.
I missed most of the first weekend, including all
of the times when 4C2WH was active in DL34, but I
did get on in time to work the others operating in
Mexico Sunday night of the first weekend. The
second weekend I was on briefly Saturday and all
afternoon and evening Sunday, long enough for
about 50 QSOs with the five XE DXpeditioners.
Thanks to everyone who worked us!
