2007 ARRL 160 Meter Contest

12/04/2007 | K6EI I used a roof-mounted inverted-L and ran QRP. Local noise conditions were pretty bad here in my neighborhood during the evening, but I had a blast between midnight and sunrise. I worked almost everyone I could hear (roughly 220 QSOs and 47 multipliers), but knew there were plenty of weak signals out there that were below my noise floor. The high point of the contest was working RW0CWA across the pond with my mighty 5 watts. Yeah!

Suggestion for next year: 599 is universally sent as part of the contest exchange and as a result has no meaning -- why not update the rules and substitute power level (H for high, L for low, Q for QRP) instead of RST? This would make the contest more interesting for the participants. Working a distant station partially buried in noise would be far more meaningful if I knew he was running 5 watts instead of a kilowatt. -- K6EI
