2011 ARRL January VHF Sweepstakes
Activity was better than what I feared for the contest. Pretty much the same as the last 4 years. Prior to that we had a bit of 6m Es in Jan that would help with activity and the grid count. I ran on 6,2,222,432,902,1296 and 10Ghz.
Unusual here, but I had a number of station and operation "issues" that cost me a few QSOs. For example I was on the EME antenna for my 2m meteor scatter skeds and don't complete a one. Surprise Surprise! I was NOT a happy camper after I spent 8 days redoing the 2m WSJT side of things. I would get just enough pings to keep me thinking it was just horrid meteors. I didn't discover my problem until I switched over to the tropo 2m configuration and then I saw the wrong antenna connected to the 8877. I felt about 1 inch tall! The EME antenna was at 110deg Az and 18deg elevation. The guys I was running with were not even close to that Az. RATS! Oh, June will be better, right?
Conditions seems a bit flat at times, but with the temperature ranging from 37 below to 7 degrees above (F) over the contest period, one would not expect great tropo. Only one Es 6m contact and 102 contacts total. I hope the operator for the June contest is better "trained"!.
