2011 ARRL June VHF Contest
Saturday started out a little slow but picked up soon after. Started out working locals on the higher bands at the beginning. Found out that Murphy had visited my station when the SWR on my two meter beam went through the roof. Found out that my rotor loop had been pulled almost straight by some freak happenstance. ( I don't have a clue how it happened) But I think it put a crimp in the coax leading to my two meter beam. So I was without two meters to coordinate any work on the higher bands. So was very thankful for the opening on six meters. Spent most of my time there hunting and pouncing on some very good grids to the North and North West from my location in EM36. There also was almost a pipeline between Arkansas and the South West. My new ICOM 9100 work very well for its first time in the heat of a full blown contest. After and initial bout of being all thumbs with some of the controls I finally settled into a routine that worked quite well for me. Over all I was able to double my score from any previous effort to date. It was a thrill to work some grids up into North West Canada that aren't even on my mostly US map. So again I had a great weekend of high intensity radio and a lot of fun. Hope to hear you next contest! Hope to have a new band and a reconfigured antenna stack by then. See you in September!
