2012 ARRL June VHF Contest
I was on call the week prior to the contest and working nights. This particular call was very bad as our PACS system which handles our images and reports crashed in a spectacular fashion. I had to run back and forth from the actual radiology units which ac quired the images and read from them which was extremely difficult and exhausting. I entered the contest sleep deprived.
The morning of the contest it was raining hard and there was lightning requiring disconnecting the antenna and power supply. At 1533 before the contest started I was hearing a few stations but the QRN was awful. I tried the NB and NR on the Icom 756 Pro II and found the NR to be somewhat effective, but not the NB.
An Hour before the contest started a severe storm cell came through, forcing me to disconnect--it lasted 30 minutes. When I connected back up, the band (6 meters) was quiet. Well, not quiet--there was plenty of QRN!
Worked a few locals on Saturday and three DX--EK and EL grids which were pounding in!
Sunday was better. First there was a brief openning to the west and then to the north. The band pretty much stayed open from that point on until I had to quit.
Final tally:
115 QSO's
62 Mults
All on 6 meters for a claimed score of 7,130.
Used an Icom 756 Pro II @ 5 watts
Superantennas YP-3 3 element yagi at 21 feet
