2014 ARRL International EME Contest

12/10/2014 | K4EME

This is David AD4TJ, 2 meter half of the K4EME Multi-Op( 3 ops total ) Team, operating under the Neighorhood Rule.

I was hoping to break the 100 QSO barrier this year; came close with a total of 93. Several stations were called with no response; some disappeared( but that is SOP for this contest, or any contest, for that matter! ). I used MAP65 for the 2nd time, and Message window was not filled up like I expected it to be. Sorry I missed some US stations that should have gotten into the log! Worked 13 US states, 2 JA, 2 VK, 1 ZL, and only 1 VE. Only 1 CW contact was made, OZ1HNE being the lucky one. I checked the CW window 5 times during the course of the contest, and only heard OZ1HNE once, 1 time I heard someone calling CQ but only got OZ( probably OZ1HNE again ), and the other 3 times I listened I heard not 1 dit or dah. Hard to work something you can't hear! No equipment failures, only operator error sometimes, mostly for not clicking on " Set TX Freq " to set the freq selected in MAP65.

K4EME Cowles, on 432, had help as usual from Rick KR4V, on the 1st leg, to help pick out CW signals. They only managed to work 5 CW guys this year, and 30 JT65B stations. The 2nd leg brought windy, rainy conditions that threw his arrays out of alignment a few degrees; he only managed 5 more Q's for the 2nd leg.

2 meter setup: Kenwood TS-2000X, FunCube Dongle Pro Plus, MAP65, Trakbox, WSJT10, 600 to KW JT65, 1.2KW+ for CW, 4x15 K1FO horz, 4x11 K1FO vertical.

432 setup: Yaesu FT-847, FunCube Dongle Pro Plus, MAP65, 600 to 800 watts JT65, KW+ CW, 8x33 K1FO horz for TX/RX, and 4x22 K1FO vertical for RX only.

Totals:  2 meters:  93 Q's, 48 M's

             432          :  35 Q's,  25 M's

                               128 Q's x 73 M's x 100 = 934,400 claimed points

Just missed a million points by a couple of Q's or M's!

Look out next year!  1296 is in the works by K4EME, and possibly 2304 by myself.

73, David AD4TJ
