ARRL Digital Technology for Emergency Communications Course

Frequently Asked Questions

When I load the CD the course does not open.  How do I start the course?

With most systems the CD will auto start, but if it doesn’t, go to your browser’s “File” menu, “Open” and then browse to the CD drive on your system to select the file called “default.htm.”

I am able to load the course on my computer but I can’t figure out how to access the menu and/or navigate to the next page.

First of all be sure that you are opening the course in one of the approved browsers, Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari.  Other browsers may not support all features of the course, including the navigation tools.  Set your default browser to one of these while you are using the course CD.

Next, be sure your monitor display is set to 1024 x 768 resolution. Once open in an appropriate browser, the menu bar at the left of the course window and the page navigation button at the bottom of the course window can be obscured if you do not have your screen resolution set to 1024 X 768.

Next check to be sure all toolbars at the top of your browser window are closed.  Too many open toolbars can also obscure a portion of the course window and hide the bottom page navigation from view.

When I have the CD installed in my CD drive and leave the course and want to return to it, how do I reopen it?

In your browser, go to “File”, “Open” and browse to select the file on your CD drive called “default.htm.”

Does this course include a final exam? Does it offer a certificate?

There is a final assessment included in the course CD.  After you successfully complete the assessment you will be able to create a personalized certificate in Adobe that you can print on your home printer.

Is this course part of the ARRL Emergency Communications training program?

No, this course is informational only.  It is not a part of the ARECC training program.
