    Greetings Michigan Amateurs:

NEW AWARD. A few weeks ago, I had announced a new award program for the Michigan ARRL Section. That is the Honor Roll for Emergency Coordinators/Radio Officers and their counties who had achieved a full calendar year of 100% monthly reporting. We owe a great deal to these individuals and their groups' efforts. They all have worked diligently to insure that their local programs are in place and effective. It is not an easy task to effectively manage a volunteer program. It requires true leadership to keep everyone motivated, interested and willing to donate many hours of time, while receiving only the reward of: "Thanks, your have done a great job". Importantly, these new awards apply to the local teams as well. It takes the support of every organization member to make the team fully effective.

We now acknowledge that effort and thank the EC/RO and members from the following counties for making the annual goal and becoming Charter Members of the Michigan ARPSC Honor Roll:

Alcona Stan Darmofal W8SZ, Baraga Randall Bell K8HRO, Benzie Tom Schoonover K8BTE, Berrien Tom Dumminger KC8MGD, Branch Larry Camp WB8R, Calhoun Dave Smith KC8COT, Chippewa Marv DeWitt KC8MLD, Clinton Dave Oulette WB8MWG, Gratiot Bill Rogers KC8OUF, Hillsdale Dan Sprow KC8RYF, Ingham Tom Shaver KC8NJK, Jackson Tim Bair WD8PMD, Keweenaw Gary Hansen K8YSZ, Lenawee Joe Pullen K8YZA, Livingston Bruce Pollock N8WWX, Luce Dave Drake KC8QZG, Marquette Rich Schwenke N8GBA, Mason Gary Berk KC8MWF, Mecosta Steve Cowan KD8DHZ, Menominee Paul Sorensen NS8V, Midland John Wolters W8QN, Monroe Jerry Stone WB7RUM, Oakland Larry Hornsby KB8POD, Oceana Dave Robertson N8UKH, Ontonagon Al Trainer KC8OCK, Ottawa Stave VanderHill N8UJD, Saginaw Ron Huss KC8YVF, Tuscola Roger Edwards WB8WJV, Washtenaw Doug Cox N8ZLR,

BLOSSOMLAND HAM OF THE YEAR: It is my pleasure to inform you that Bill Wheeler, W8JBA, of Stevensville, Michigan, has been selected as the Blossomland Amateur Radio Association (BARA) Ham of the Year for 2009. This award is given in recognition of a BARA member who has distinguished himself/herself as an Amateur Radio Operator who upholds the ideals of Amateur Radio and the Blossomland Amateur Radio Association through club service, friendship, promotion of the radio communications art, self-training, or public service to the community. Bill, W8JBA, a long time member of BARA, has held many offices in the association, and is currently the Trustee. He has also taught many licensing classes, is a Volunteer Examiner, and participates in nearly all of BARA's activities. Bill has been a very faithful, steadfast and positive influence in the life of the club.

AWARD IN MUSKEGON The Muskegon County Emergency Communication Services, has awarded, James Wolffis, KD8DLQ, the "Al Ronning Outstanding Service Award". The award is given each December to a member of the group that has gone above and beyond in service to this organization. Recognition is given in memory of Al Ronning, K8AER, who was a member of the group that died in an automobile crash in 2006. "Ronning was an inspiration to other members of the group in his tireless effort towards public service" according to James Duram, Emergency Coordinator for amateur radio in Muskegon County.
