Greetings Michigan Amateurs:
NEW AWARD. A few weeks ago, I had announced a new award program for the Michigan ARRL Section. That is the Honor Roll for Emergency Coordinators/Radio Officers and their counties who had achieved a full calendar year of 100% monthly reporting. We owe a great deal to these individuals and their groups' efforts. They all have worked diligently to insure that their local programs are in place and effective. It is not an easy task to effectively manage a volunteer program. It requires true leadership to keep everyone motivated, interested and willing to donate many hours of time, while receiving only the reward of: "Thanks, your have done a great job". Importantly, these new awards apply to the local teams as well. It takes the support of every organization member to make the team fully effective.
We now acknowledge that effort and thank the EC/RO and members from the following counties for making the annual goal and becoming Charter Members of the Michigan ARPSC Honor Roll:

BLOSSOMLAND HAM OF THE YEAR: It is my pleasure to inform you that Bill Wheeler, W8JBA, of Stevensville, Michigan, has been selected as the Blossomland Amateur Radio Association (BARA) Ham of the Year for 2009. This award is given in recognition of a BARA member who has distinguished himself/herself as an Amateur Radio Operator who upholds the ideals of Amateur Radio and the Blossomland Amateur Radio Association through club service, friendship, promotion of the radio communications art, self-training, or public service to the community. Bill, W8JBA, a long time member of BARA, has held many offices in the association, and is currently the Trustee. He has also taught many licensing classes, is a Volunteer Examiner, and participates in nearly all of BARA's activities. Bill has been a very faithful, steadfast and positive influence in the life of the club.
AWARD IN MUSKEGON The Muskegon County Emergency Communication Services, has awarded, James Wolffis, KD8DLQ, the "Al Ronning Outstanding Service Award". The award is given each December to a member of the group that has gone above and beyond in service to this organization. Recognition is given in memory of Al Ronning, K8AER, who was a member of the group that died in an automobile crash in 2006. "Ronning was an inspiration to other members of the group in his tireless effort towards public service" according to James Duram, Emergency Coordinator for amateur radio in Muskegon County.

PRB-1 UPDATE Progress continues in obtaining co-sponsors for HB5556 in the Michigan House, and late breaking news indicates we have a senator who is going to introduce a similar bill in the Michigan Senate. Please check the PRB1 web page http://www.prb1michigan.org for updates and please write to your State Representative to encourage support for HB5556. Your letters are vital to the success of the legislation.

REPORTS: Here are ARPSC stats for December: Total number of ARES members: 2039, Number of EC/ROs reporting: 40, Drills, nets, tests and training sessions: 255, Public Service Events: 11, Emergency Operations: 1, Total number of ARES operations: 267. Total Operator Hours: 2906, contributed dollar value: $52,626.
NETS: Michigan nets reporting for September (in order of traffic count): QMN, MiVHF, MiTN, SEMTN, UPN, TMMTN, WSSBN, NLEUP, GLETN, MiARPSC, Hiawatha, Chelsea, Kent County Red Cross. The Michigan NTS reported 2950 Operator hours worth $53,752 in December.
